welcome aboard

as i've mentioned in the past, i love brilliantly-written copies, witty write-ups, and well-thought-of articles. 

well, i've encountered one in the 2006 calendar of philippine airlines…

the sumptuousness of the words as they describe each key destinations is amazing…

welcome aboard philippine airlines and enjoy… 

first stop: the (finally) awaken giant… 

1. beijing : for centuries, beijing was the symbol of chinese civilization. emperors enriched her with treasures and palaces. dynasties rose and fell in her name. and foreign armies marched to covet her… for more than a thousand years, beijing shaped the course and destiny of china.

today, beijing remains as the seat of government, culture, and the arts. but times have changed. though her past grandeur and civilization are preserved for the world to cherish, her skyline is forever changed by a world with no boundaries.

let's tour the great city down under…

2. sydney : as the hot day melts into night, the city of sydney prepares for an evening of leisure and enjoyment. it is a ritual typical of the syneysider. fun-loving. outgoing. adventurous.

laughter, music and chatter echo through the night as more sydneysiders make their way through harbour bridge. it is a night to explore new places. make new friends. and live the way life should be lived. 

let's fly high to la-L.A-land…

 

 

3. los angeles : the city of angels is a story made in heaven. it is where the stars orbit and humans, worshipped like gods.

los angeles is a city that relishes the limelight, when the first theatre opened in 1918, it was to be the genesis of the performing arts and stardom.

the walt disney concert hall, with its dramatic curved stainless steel exterior, captures the spirit of a city that thrives on being in the center of it all.

our connecting flight goes back to asia…

4. taipei : taipei's leap into the future is, by far, the highest the world has ever seen. and it is symbolized by taipei 101 - the tallest building on eart (to date).

it is a statement of a people with purpose and vision. a city that defies the impossible. and that defines what is possible. what was once a city that had no buildings higher than its lampposts is now a metropolis of incredible scale. 

onto our penultimate stop…

5. bankok : if one can remember bangkok's (full) name — Krungthep Mahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathani Burirom-udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amonphiman Awatansathit Sakkathattiya Witsanu Kamprasit –then one has only begun to discover her uniqueness.

getting to know bangkok may take forever, for her attractions are limitless. and her adventures, endless. bangkok is a beehive of a city where people seem to be in a perpetual motion. running in and out of malls and flea markets. driving around a maze of roads. and exploring the nightlife. if there is one thing that makes bangkok incredibly memorable, it is her gift to surprise more..

going staraight to our final destination… 

 

6. honolulu : is it the sweet scent of the flowers with which she welcomes her guests? or the adventures that her temperamental waves promise? is it the legend of her ancestral kings? or the legendary diamond ores of the diamond head? what draws thousand of people to her shores is the mystique that is honolulu.

under the clear evening sky, honolulu takes out her finest jewelry–a string of hotels and skyscrapers sparkling like a diamond-studded necklace–and lays it down  on waikiki beach.

…the trip has finally come to its full-stop.

i first saw this calendar in ms. leah's office (amway) while waiting for my digicon family. as i read through the lines, i couldn't help but fall in love in the way they weave the words to form such an amazing collection of description  for each city.

how i wish i could, someday, somehow, produce such a wonderfully-written copy.

by the way, the name, when translated, reads: "The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam".
