finally, up north
January 7, 2007time flies when you're not aware of it. you're not aware of its "tick, tick," when you love what you're doing. hanging out with friends is one of the best de-stressing agent available. and i love it.
today, i had an opportunity to spend the whole day with donald and krista–an unlikely combination. after an hour or so tutoring "our" scholars, we decided to drop by mabini bakeshop along a. mabini (in caloocan). i thought, the two just planned to taste one of their buns. i was wrong. we ended up sharing stories and rumors. we stayed in the bakeshop more or less than two hours. i was surprised krista was not asking to go home. usually, in the middle of a gimmick, she would leave us. but today, everything seemed different.
when nature called, and no restroom inside, we decided to leave. since i mentioned about a certain "mateo," a (cute) damer alumnus who happened to be working in kfc - city hall, we decided to use kfc's comfort room. we almost ran because we couldn't hold on to "it" any longer. when we arrived at kfc, our fears materialized. "restroom out of order," and "mateo not in sight."
we ran toward our next destination: jollibee
after releasing everything, i thought that was it. again, i thought wrong. krista asked where we were going.
donal and i positively welcomed that question. donald knew the place very well. he was born and raised there. he suggested a cafe shop. a cafe shop in caloocan? amazing! we went to a certain hawaii coffe shop. something i've never heard of. when we went there, the guy (manning the place) was asleep; even the airconditioning. he opened it when we arrived.
it was a small place. but cozy enough for the three of us. in its "minute-ness," the owner managed to squeezed in a couch. it was there when we saw the sun went down. we stayed for more almost five hours! it was there when i had one of the nicest conversations with friends. we talked almost anything: from the much-talked about pantene commercial to my dream of governing the city of caloocan.
that was the time i first revealead my plans of making caloocan a city at par with those in the south.
it was an unforgettable day and night.
maybe, one of the factors why it was okay with us to stay is the fact that we're in caloocan. our turf. no need to worry of staying late, of getting caught up in heavy traffic, of getting home in the midnight. since donald and i live in caloocan and krista is just a jeepney away, we were relaxed.
with proper planning, with a sufficient budget, and with people who truly care about the success of this city, caloocan can have the glory that it deserves. its people will no longer need to travel outside its borders just to experience the beauty of life (and night life).
i hope that kind of lifestyle will be experienced by those in the camanava area. a place where people (especially those in the south) thought doesn't exist. a place where they think crime is rampant. a place that isn't safe. a place that isn't conducive for business. a place that isn't healthy.
i know, someday, somehow, that will change.
in time, the people of this historical city will surely say, "it's a very nice city!"
*sparkles!
