Dreams, when greatly pursued, are not impossible. I dreamed.

I greatly pursued it.

And I achieved it.

fiction! fiction!

(originally appeared on october 10, 2004)

Number thirteen has been regarded as the harbinger of misfortunes. I’m superstitious; hence, I reserved this unlucky spot to somebody who will not be affected by any mishaps in life; simply because he himself doesn’t have a life. He is fiction!

anchor’s away

(originally appeared on october 2, 2004)

Nope! This is not an episode from Sex and The City. I just copied one of their episode’s titles. But I sure make it a point that I will be discussing something different—really different. I will not talk about foreign sailors landing on our land and looking for one-night stands. No, no…I will not talk about that. And oh! I wish I had an encounter with those seeking-for-something-else-sailors; I will definitely discuss it here.

piled files

(originally appeared on september 29, 2004)

Oh my good Lord! Ten days have passed but it’s just now that I have visited this portal again. Here I am scraping each segment of my brain for some spoiled files that I should have included in this fab-journal.

What have happened to me for the past days? Let me scrape some more…

a more reel encounter

(originally appeared on september 19, 2004)

I was in the middle of the journal entry, prequel to this, when I received a text message from a much unexpected texter—Michelle Pabalan of GMA New Media. She was asking me if I would be available on September 10 (that was a Friday). They needed talents for a segment of their new show. Should I think twice? Definitely, not. Fresh from my “commercial debut,” I accepted another project. This time, it’s from a major network. How cool is that! The excitement was really unbelievable. I was really thinking that this could be my way, for me to have a career with GMA New Media or if the good Lord permits, directly with GMA-7.

sweat, stand, and deliver (and sweat again)

(originally appeared on september 06, 2004)

In a country whipped by all kinds of economic (not to mention, political) misfortunes including the latest cross—the nation is about to scrape the budget barrel—17-ish girls are experiencing out of the body experience as they prepare for the day when they formally reach womanhood—their debut. (Whew! What a sentence!) This over-valued celebration has been considered as every girl’s rite of passage (consider it as the circumcision for the boys–sans the preparation).

farewell to the flame

(originally appeared on september 02, 2004)

I first saw the Olympic torch went aflame during the opening ceremonies of the 25th Olympiad held in Barcelona, Spain in 1992. I was in second grade. I was in awe when a Spanish archer made his flaming arrow flew into air and it precisely landed on the torch. It was great a way in putting the torch alive. Three Olympics had passed, until now, this very unique way of putting the Olympic torch into flame still stays in my mind. Three Olympics had passed, until now, I am still dreaming of personally celebrating the Olympic spirit. I really want to attend the Olympics and see how world-class athletes from different parts of the globe showcase their

greatness. But now in the true spirit of the Olympic Games, I’ll set aside my just-personal-not-really-becoming-an-athlete dream. I’ll put on spotlight the 16 Pinoy athletes who competed in the recently concluded XXVIII Olympiad.

old gold meets delta nu

(originally appeared august 26, 2004)

My gratitude to our still-a-thesis-thing-Mexican-party weeks before, I received an exclusive invite to Roy’s big party at Calamba, Laguna. By the way, highway, Roy is considered as the noveau riche of a deaf gay community. My personal interpreter slash new close friend, Ooma, also got a chance to receive an invite. I was going to that party for an official thesis mission. So, I must bring another thesis mate—Cindy. Leo couldn’t be there because he is a non-Tiff (get it?).  It was my aim to get closer to this delineated segment of our society. Unfortunately, Cindy didn’t receive a visa from his forever-strict dada. I must think quickly. Randomly, I saw Nixie’s classic portrait in my elephantine memory. I called and coerced him to accompany me to this mission to Mars. The chances were slim. It really was a short notice. Thanx to the signs (i.e. buko pie, the name Laguna, etc.), which according to him he saw while he and his sister was in a Caloocan mall, he finally agreed to be with me.

chasing calamities

(originally appeared august 23, 2004)

Amidst this bending-the-Berlin-wall hoo-ha, my Tiff best friend’s words stood firm and tall. “Great beauty comes great responsibility!” Nope, those are not his words; I just remembered that line. It’s neither Uncle Ben’s (of SpiderMan) line. Seriously, his words were, “Always remember, to stick to your roots.” And what did he mean by that? Simply put, try new things without the need to compromise your true self. How can that be? Sounds complicated? Yes. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No.

ms. bands, miss liz…

(originally appeared on august 20, 2004)

After three consecutive to-be-critically-acclaimed episodes, the producer decided to scale down the production for this episode. Although this is a downgrade in terms of production, rest assured that this will be rich in thoughts equaling or maybe outshining the previous power trio.

In any relationship—whether it be on a romantic-Romeo or on a friendly-Wendy level—as what I have always believed in, someone gives more than what the other can offer. In any relationship there will [almost] always the power-giver and ready-receiver. But this is not a “usury system,” where the latter takes advantage of the former. It’s just that, there are factors, which allow the other person to be more capable of giving and sacrificing things than the other camp. And more often than not, this seemingly-parasitical world makes those people in a relationship survive countless tsunamis along the shore. It is a must that everyone should understand that things being discussed are both that can be touched and can be felt.
